In the music industry “demos” are a kind of currency. New artists record them to showcase their talent, writers record them to shop around to execs/producers, and other artists record them in the hopes that they’ll make an album, but often times they don’t. So what happens to them? They exist in a kind of purgatory, but sometimes we’re lucky enough to get our hands on them; oftentimes demos are fire, and unfortunately never see the light of day. One such demo is recorded by Jay Sean, probably for female talent, and boy is it a banger!
I believe “Ghost” was recorded somewhere around 2010 and might have been for Yung Money’s Shanell. It looks like it was never re-recorded and officially released which is so sad and so prevalent in the industry.
Obviously my favorite part is hearing Jay Sean sell “Boy it’s getting kinda late you like to make me wait”, but honestly the production is fire and he sounds angelic. The song is very much an archetype of how most R&B/Pop songs sounded in 2010, and would have done well for him or another artist. I love me some unreleased music, and this does not disappoint!
