In today’s fickle industry, artists release what they call “buzz singles”. What that means is that they either don’t have enough confidence in their release, or the single they thought they were confident in flopped. It’s a pretty good PR move, but I’m over here like “girl, I see you”. In a galaxy far far away, the shade reaches far and wide and no one is safe from the trolls. Iggy Azalea is the most recent artist to do just this, and….
It’s a Christina Milian diss track?! Ha! I wish…
What is a Milian?
That mess, slaying me with “Us Against The World”, then disappearing forever. Some say she turned into Nicole Scherzinger hoping for more success, but we all know how that turned out… Meanwhile, Iggy, yas yas yas.
Buzz track or not, this is good. The Iggy machine has been the subject of much controversy (a fucking trainwreck) over the past two years, causing her to cancel performances and even to go into hiding for a bit after an unflattering picture of her in a bikini leaked, allegedly. Since then, she’s kind of shaken the haters off and gotten back into the recording studio. And in October, she announced the name of her new LP would be Digital Distortion. Could be cute.
The production is in-line with what we’re used to hearing and that isn’t bad. I am definitely feeling some digital distortion from it. It opens with what appears to be some 90’s house, but it quickly changes into something more electronic then grinding. The beat in the verses gives me life, then it changes at the bridge and chorus. I think it will do well for her and help her garner some interest. She needs a hit to recover, and I think she just might deliver if this is the direction the project is going in. It is definitely more basic (think sodium hydroxide), but Iggy has never been a real lyrical genius…
