Okay, everybody stop whatever the fuck it is you’re doing and listen. I mean really listen. About 3 hours ago, something M-A-J-O-R happened. Two of Madonna‘s new songs leaked…  I repeat, we are on the heels of an impending take-over. Somewhere, in the dungeon of a dark castle on a lonely hill in England, Madonna is standing over the shackled bloodstained body of her assistant demanding the head of whomever is responsible for these leaks.

Early Saturday morning, late Friday night, we were treated to not one, but two (!!!!!!!) new tracks from Madonna’s upcoming LP Just Fucking Give Me The Grammy Already, Shit. The songs are from her recording sessions with Avicii. “Wash All Over Me” & “Rebel Heart” mark the first time we have heard new Madonna material since 2012’s MDNA.

The results? Interesting, lyrically artistic, and just a little folky. It is definitely a departure from the EDM we saw on MDNA, and no one is complaining. The production is fresh, the vocals are soft and lilting, and they come together phenomenally.

“Wash All Over Me” is a bit religious and a bit introspective. It is Madonna’s ode to her individuality and where she fits in the big scheme of things. It is very “Let It Will Be” with renewed vigor. “Life is a like a desert, an oasis… too confusing/ So I walk this razors edge/ Will I stand or will I fall“, she laments, perplexed by the complexities of life. “Who am I to decide what should be done?/ If this is the end then let it come/ Let it come, let it rain/ Let it rain, rain all over me/ Like the tide, let it go/ Let it wash all over me“. This is kind of giving me life… She pours out her heart while Avicii‘s production soars and grinds and electrifies each word. Very well done signore.

“Rebel Heart” is even more folky, it’s folking awesome. It is very retrospective and sees her acknowledging past mistakes and how her hunger for fame kind of ruled her behavior.  “So I took the road less traveled/ And I barely made it out alive/ Through the darkness somehow I survived/… Deep down in the depths of my Rebel Heart“. The chorus is basically flawless and the beat transforms into a sort of tribal affair that has us all in a kerfluffle, obviously.

So basically, be prepared to have your lives snatched when she ACTUALLY makes a release/announcement.
