Will Young, British pop extraordinaire and penis enthusiast, released a solid ass album back in 2011. Echoes was full of throbbing cuts, emotions, and a little bit of fun, all coming together to make Young standout. I am a huge fan of UK pop acts, so when I heard Will Young was prepping a new release, I was all into it. And here is why.
1.) “Jealousy”
I am pretty sure that this is the first song I actually listened to by Young. I was in full on University mode, found this album on a blog, and decided to play it while studying. I then found myself all about it, I was all, “Okay Ms. Will Young, I see you!” This was the first single from the album Echoes, and consequently the first song on the album. “Jealousy” is an angsty little number driven by synth and bass, making it the perfect companion to any bitter queen (oh hey).
2.) “I Just Want a Lover”
“I just want a lover…/nothing sentimental…./I just want a lover, to fool around again”, Will pines while the throbbing beat take us away. Another dreamy affair that has Will pouring out his emotions, it’s all a bit of the dramatic and sensual. Will seems to be over the heartbreak of “Jealousy”, and is ready to find solace in the lap of some stranger.
3.) “Happy Now”
The appropriately titled “Happy Now” is almost a homage to “Feeling Good” (the most covered song ever…), with it’s tamed drums and synths galore. “You turn me on my head, but still I survive/ I’m feeling happy now”, it’s a celebration. This album tells a story and it is clear that Young was going through it when he recorded it. Creative genius is born from heartbreak, or so it seems. It’s gonna get better…it’s gonna get better.
