Stand Out: Gorgon City – Sirens

When Gorgon City released “Ready For Your Love (feat. MNEK)” in January of 2014, I lost my shit. They seemingly came out of nowhere and were doing big things. Every song that came from the Sirens project following was nothing short of amazing. They released their debut album on October 6th, and obviously, it is great.

The standout track that I keep coming back to is the fabulous “Ftpa (feat. Erik Hassle)”. Erik Hassle is a Swedish pop genius responsible for so many great songs tinged with emotional drama (dun dun Law & Order style). The top three, for me, are “Are You Leaving Me”, “Sometimes When It Rains”, and “Standing Where You Left Me”. Totally not depressing, right?… Who hurt you, Erik? WHO HURT YOU?!

“Ftpa”, not to be confused with FUPA, is a mellow, kind of drum affair that gives new meaning to moody, brooding, angst dance. Fuck the pain away, that’s what everyone needs… “Kissing your scars, softly/ Watching you heal, slowly/ Fuck the pain away…”, Erik pleads, giving his lover a healing beef injection. The power of the D should not be taken lightly, just think of it as a homeopathic remedy that can be taken orally, sometimes anally.

This song takes me to a place where we can see our breath in the air as we writhe around in sweaty ecstasy. Intimacy, pain, and passion all come together at this junction, and two people melt into each other. Can you picture it? LSD flowing, panting, and exposed…
