Jam Sesh

I like to stay pretty current with the musical haps, and because of that I am usually listening to some pretty dope jams. For a minute, I was posting songs that I found myself obsessively listening to that week, on Facebook. I have commitment issues, so that didn’t go on for long… But, I’m back and fresher than ever, so quench your thirsts.

1.) Ariana Grande – One Last Time

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HjX7VrYZ4tc

Our shady little diva is 2014’s star, at least until Rihanna rihturns, and released a fucking stellar sophomore album a few weeks back. I find myself belting this one out in the shower as I’m scrubbing my (perfect) ass. Brodie, my precious little nugget of a golden retriever, could not be less amused by my performances. But let’s be honest, we’ve all been there… After a break-up, between sobbing into a pint—or three—of Ben & Jerry’s and throwing knives at pictures of your ex, you still want the D one last time.

2.) Gorgon City feat. Jennifer Hudson – Go All Night

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_84wwb0I134

Go on with your bad self JHud! She took me right to church, invoked me with the holy spirit, and had me eatin’ all kinds of crackers with this one. This is the Jennifer Hudson that I want to hear. I know y’all remember this.

3.) Maroon 5 – It Was Always You

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Vmw6fnvqOOM

“Woke up sweating from a dream…”, obviously the best moment(s) of this song. Between the haunting delivery of my babydaddy’s vocals and the sleek production, this has been burning up my speakers quite frequently. I’m a sucker for some sappy bullshit, and either Adam is singing about how he wants he and I to be more than just friends, or he totally regrets getting the mahi instead of the sea bass. That shit will haunt you.

4.) David Guetta feat. Sam Martin – Dangerous

First of all WHO?! Second of all *my body is ready*. Guetta came out of left field with this gem, and that is quite a good thing. We all had Guetta typecast as some eurotrash DJ who only had one style. Wait you didn’t? Whatever. Anyway, Guetta’s releases are usually pretty predictable, color me surprised and impressed. The strings, yaaaaaas yaaaaas a million times yaaaas. I love this new push for brass and strings recently in pop, s’alright. This enters into dark and gritty territory though, with its rock elements and Martin’s interesting vocals. Way to knock it out of the park bruh.

5.) Nick Jonas feat. Angel Haze – Numb

I love me a good trap beat, especially when it has some substance behind it. Who hurt you, Nick Jonas?! This song is giving me some chopped and skewed N’Sync “Gone” vibes, and I’m over here like .

This album is going to be everything. Stay tuned.

6.) Lucas Nord feat. Tove Lo – Run On Love

The Queen of the Clouds lends her voice to Lucas Nord’s smash single and the result is amazing. Between the pulsating trancey beat and Tove’s emotive delivery, I’m both aroused and oddly depressed. Kind of like my first sexual encounter… Depressed because he got out of his cage and escaped my basement. It’s like who do I have to bang to get some good welding done? Am I right?

7.) Ten Ven, Ripley, & Zebra Katz – 1 Bad Bitch

Couture couture couture. The song and video are everything. I live for the red dress and ladies who lunch…on champagne.

“Are you hungry?”

“Of course not hunty! I accidentally swallowed some dust last Thursday, now quit hogging the champagne.”

8.) Chris Malinchak feat. MNEK – Happiness

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j1eBEzAK5tk

Chill, intimate, and beautiful. This song has all the elements of a song you play while passionately making love to your significant other, or vigorously tonguing their balls (cue my mom lecturing me on how filthy I am *hair flip*). All jokes aside, I love music like this. Driving down the expressway on a rainy night with nothing but your thoughts. It’s everything.

9.) Jennifer Lopez feat. Jack Mizrahi – Tens

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6WQ2A5K_fHA

And death drop. This song is serving up Paris is Burning vogue realness, and JLo definitely “turnt it, right?” Tens across the board JLo, and the bit where she pays homage to the legendary houses, yaaaaas. “Look at me look at me look at me, bitch”, JLo demands, reminding everyone that she is still relevant at 50 years old. You go JLo.

10.) Ariana Grande – Why Try

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G1sUNc8alP0

I found myself singing this all day today, out of no where. Another nod to Ariana, because this is good music.

“I’m loving the pain, I never wanna live without it…now we’re screaming just to see who’s louder”

That struggle is so real. You see kids, when two people love each other very much they get rulll pissed at each other, and shit hits the fan.
